Third-ranked Ursuline is impressive in lopsided victory over No. 10 Ladue

November 30, 2012

ARNOLD • Ursuline guard Lauren Weschke had no choice but to shoot the ball Thursday night.

“We had the rule tonight of so many shots a quarter or she didn’t play the next quarter,” Ursuline coach Mary Hannig said.
Weschke shot the ball as instructed, and, just like the Ursuline coaches thought, they went in more times than not. The junior had a career-high 16 points to help lead the Bears to an impressive 69-44 win over Ladue in the final of the Jim Salsman Memorial Tip-Off Tournament at Fox High.

Weisbrod closing in on Ursuline's scoring record

Hannah Weisbrod never set out to be the all-time career scoring leader at Ursuline.

“That’s not really what I focus on in games,” she said. “I want to give my teammates really good passes and work hard on defense.”
Nonetheless, the senior, who lives in Affton, will soon be the most prolific player the school has ever had at putting the ball through the hoop. She currently has 1,114 points -- just eight points shy of the 1,122 scored by Jen Myers Ramsey, the wife of radio broadcaster Bob Ramsey.

Weisbrod, who averages 15.5 points a game, is expected to break the record today when the Bears (No. 6 in the STLhighschoolsports.com large-schools rankings) host Cor Jesu (10-6) in a Metro Women’s Athletic Association White Division game slated to tip off at 5:30 p.m.

Big second-half surge lifts Ursuline by Visitation

Thursday, January 24, 2013

OAKLAND • After dropping a conference game to Cor Jesu last Wednesday that it wanted badly to win, Ursuline focused on bouncing back strongly on Thursday against Visitation.

The Bears were able to do just that.
After an inconsistent first half, they played a terrific second half en route to a 55-34 win over the visiting Vivettes in a non-conference contest.
“This was a big game for us,” said senior Hannah Weisbrod, who had a game-high 16 points. “We didn’t want to disappoint our fans and everything.”
